GBInstagram 5.9: an Unofficial Instagram Mod for Android

GBInstagram 5.9 is an unofficial modified version of the Instagram app for Android, published by a group called GBMods. It is not made or approved by Meta, and before looking for a GBInstagram download it is worth knowing what such a mod does and what it can cost you.

What the mod changes

GBInstagram belongs to the same family as GBWhatsApp: a group of modders takes the official app, changes its code and adds features that Instagram does not offer. Typical additions are downloading photos, videos, reels and stories to the phone, copying captions and comments, zooming profile pictures, hiding that you have seen a story and changing the look of the interface. The official app is left out of the process entirely: GBInstagram is installed from an APK file, updates do not come from Google Play, and the modified code has never been checked by Meta or by the store. When you sign in, your username, password and session pass through an app built by people you do not know, who could read your direct messages or use your account. Because the mod lags behind official Instagram versions, features break and security fixes arrive late.

Risks

• Not official. GBInstagram has nothing to do with Meta or Instagram.
• Account restrictions. Instagram's terms forbid unauthorised third-party apps; accounts using mods can be temporarily or permanently blocked.
• Malware. APKs of mods are a known channel for spyware, adware and credential theft.
• No trusted updates. You depend on the modder for fixes.

Testing it safely

Keep mods away from the phone with your real accounts, banking apps and personal photos. If you want to see how the mod behaves, use a spare device or a virtual one such as the Android Studio emulator, together with a throwaway test account. Never enter your main password there.

The official option

Use the original Instagram from Google Play. It already lets you save posts to collections, download a copy of your own data, control who sees your stories and mute accounts. Instagram Lite is the lighter official version for weak phones.

Price

GBInstagram is distributed free, like Instagram. The real cost of a mod is the risk to your account and data.
